Challenges to sovereignty and uncertain deals
The events indicate that Israeli attacks on South Lebanon have continued since October 8, 2023, resulting in the destruction of hundreds of villages and homes, the displacement of over one million people, and extensive damage to agricultural lands and forests. The death toll has reached approximately 8,920 martyrs and 30,559 injured. Officials have described the damages as a major environmental, humanitarian, and economic disaster, warning that the Israeli policies announced go beyond military operations to systematic destruction that threatens Lebanon's sovereignty and its right to its land. Despite international agreements, the assaults persist, highlighting the weakness of international mechanisms in protecting Lebanon, and underscoring the need for a clear international stance to ensure the cessation of attacks, the protection of civilians, and the rebuilding of the destroyed areas.
