Jounblatt Rejects Explosive Demand
The article focuses on former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt's statements regarding the seized explosives in Lebanon. Jumblatt affirmed that Hezbollah has no right to demand the return of the explosives, warning that keeping Lebanon as a theater for Iran's influence threatens what remains of the south, which is characterized by sectarian diversity. He also pointed out that the incident revealed a lack of sufficient coordination between Lebanese and Syrian authorities, considering that some Lebanese agencies are resistant to cooperating with Syria. Jumblatt emphasized the importance of strengthening Lebanese-Syrian relations instead of avoiding them, and criticized the government's performance for not openly discussing political issues. In a different context, he dismissed the possibility of major changes resulting from the Israeli elections, believing that Netanyahu's alternative wouldn't be better. He also noted that there are differing views among Israeli military leaders regarding Lebanon.
