Washington opposes UNIFIL revival
The article reviews the efforts of France, the United States, and Israel regarding the status of UNIFIL's forces in southern Lebanon. France aligns with Lebanon in supporting the continued presence of international forces under Resolution 1701, while the United States and Israel oppose extending that presence, considering UNIFIL's mission to be a thing of the past and believing that direct dialogue between the Lebanese and Israeli armies is the future. Sources indicate that Washington thinks Lebanon should move toward replacing UNIFIL with direct agreements, and that French efforts may face obstacles due to the positions of the United States and Israel.
