Health Minister Opens Osteoporosis Day and Reestablishes Committee
Public Health Minister Rakan Nasser Eddine clarified that osteoporosis is a silent disease that often leads to bone fractures without obvious symptoms, posing a threat to patients' mobility and resulting in significant health and financial burdens. The annual costs associated with hip fractures in Lebanon are estimated to reach around $18 million by 2050, amid efforts to enhance care through revising the drug list, re-establishing access to advanced treatments, developing a hip fracture registry, and creating quality standards for diagnostic tests. These measures aim to improve assessment and follow-up, reduce future fractures, and require collaboration among healthcare institutions, doctors, and experts to develop an effective plan to combat the disease.
