Trump calls for data centers to share profits
U.S. President Donald Trump proposed requiring companies that build data centers to pay a "share of the profits" to local residents to ensure community support, especially amid the ongoing debate over water and energy consumption by these centers. He explained that changes in corporate policies were linked to lucrative financial deals, as he established a mandate for electricity generation for the centers and the provision of excess energy to the community or its sale, aiming to improve public support and bolster the development of artificial intelligence — an area Washington is keen to promote to compete with China. He also pointed out that major companies such as Anthropic and Elon Musk have committed to distributing the benefits of AI breakthroughs by allocating shares to public funds and giving shares to children.
