Republican Spending Rises Before Midterms
After the U.S. Supreme Court decision to end campaign spending restrictions in June 2023, Republican Party committees recorded a historic level of spending to support their candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. Their coordinated expenditures exceeded $137 million from July to September, compared to about $55 million by Democratic committees. The decision reveals a significant shift in American political funding rules and comes amid the Republican Party's efforts to balance races where Democrats lead in individual contributions.
