Washington to evacuate Gulf embassy staff
The U.S. State Department has ordered diplomats and their families to leave their missions in Saudi Arabia and plans to evacuate family members from some missions in the Gulf due to escalating attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis on civilian targets in Saudi Arabia, which have resulted in civilian casualties and disrupted travel. These measures come after efforts to bring some diplomats back to the region following their withdrawal amid previous Iranian attacks on American facilities.
