Reasons Our Stories Don't Reach Global Audiences
The article highlights the reasons behind the weak global reach of Arab stories, focusing on internal obstacles related to writers' confidence in their readers and the inadequacy of international distribution and publishing mechanisms. It clarifies that the issue is not a lack of language or Western hostility but rather a weak publishing and marketing system, where many works are printed but some remain confined to boxes in libraries in Beirut and Cairo, without reaching a wider international audience. It emphasizes the importance of having a professional publishing system and independent critics who understand artistic value, in order to facilitate the access of Arabic literature to a broader audience and to move away from relying on chance.
