Judicial Council Break Extends Truce
The article highlights the state of tension and political stalemate in Lebanon, where the extension of the ceasefire between the state and Hezbollah has merely deepened a period of wasted time, amid anticipation of a new confrontation that could lead to internal clashes—particularly over the framework of the national security strategy and the decision to keep or disarm weapons. Despite sharp statements between political forces—such as Samir Geagea's criticism of the Free Patriotic Movement and its leader Jebran Bassil—Bassil responded with a verse from the Bible that calls for blessing and prayer for one’s enemies, in an attempt to calm the tension. Meanwhile, Lebanon remains tense with reports of an explosive materials crisis and the postponement of referring the case to the Judicial Council, coupled with warnings of increasing security and internal risks. This situation reflects a rise in escalation, a retreat of political solutions, and a worsening of national crises.
