Imad Akhtar, 34, of California, pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to ISIS after pledging allegiance to the group, discussing travel to fight alongside it, and planning to kill a Jewish man he believed was an Israeli soldier—all without knowing that his contact was an FBI-operated fictitious identity. He also explored carrying out a bombing at a crowded event, then gave an undercover agent a scope, $400, two loaded pistols, and six ammunition magazines on June 23, 2025. He was arrested the next day. Sentencing is scheduled for February 2027. He faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
