Lebanon’s General Security and Customs thwarted an attempt to smuggle around 50 kilograms of raw cocaine at Rafic Hariri International Airport. The drugs were found in the bags of a Syrian passenger who had arrived from Accra, Ghana’s capital, after he was tracked by authorities. Investigations revealed that the smuggling network had used a substance designed to prevent the drugs from being detected by scanning equipment, prompting calls to upgrade the equipment and strengthen searches with trained police dogs.
