Unofficial results of Bulgaria’s presidential election showed Iliana Iotova winning 57.4% of the vote, compared with 39.6% for her rival, Andrey Gurov, making her the first woman elected president of the country. Iotova declared victory in Sofia, saying she would consider the concerns of different segments of society, while Gurov congratulated her by phone. Iotova calls for improved relations with Russia and opposes providing military aid to Ukraine. She had served as interim president after Rumen Radev resigned in January 2026.
