Israeli attacks continued in southern Lebanon, including explosions, shelling and incursions into several villages. A patrol also opened fire near Kfar Kila, restricted movement and detained one of the town’s residents. Retired Brigadier General Bassam Yassin said the repeated demolition of villages was intended to erase them and destroy what remained of the conditions needed for life there, making it extremely difficult for residents to return. He said there was no conclusive information about whether Israel intended to remain permanently in the areas under its control. The effects of the destruction, he added, could last for years because of the loss of homes and land and the difficulty of rebuilding.
