Research has uncovered a “gray list” of more than 100,000 words and phrases that Apple devices’ predictive-text feature does not suggest, forcing users to type them manually. The list includes controversial political and security-related terms, such as “Trump the dictator,” “Tibetan independence” and “Hamas” in Arabic. Independent researcher Derek Kaufman found it in an encrypted file within Apple’s operating system. Apple said its keyboard avoids suggesting inappropriate or offensive terms, while stressing that users can still type whatever they want manually.
