Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros al-Rahi said during Sunday Mass in Bkerke that Lebanon cannot withstand another war, and called for keeping it out of conflicts between regional blocs in order to protect its stability. He said neutrality does not mean turning away from what is right or distancing Lebanon from its surroundings, but rather preventing it from becoming an arena for others’ conflicts. He stressed that the country needs lasting peace, a state that retains control over its own decisions, and a single national authority responsible for security and peace. He also called for reforms to restore the proper functioning of state institutions and the rule of law.
