U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he asked FIFA President Gianni Infantino to review the decision to send off American striker Folarin Balogun during the 2026 World Cup. He emphasized that he did not request the red card be revoked but rather that its validity be reconsidered. Trump also criticized the referee who officiated the match, describing his decision as "horrendous" and "suspicious," believing that the incident did not warrant intervention. The sending-off decision sparked widespread controversy ahead of the round of 16.
