Tiangong 2 Approaches Distant Asteroid in China's New Deep Space Exploration Step
The Chinese space agency announced that the Tianwen-2 probe has reached the vicinity of an asteroid located one billion kilometers from Earth, with the aim of studying it closely and collecting samples. The probe, launched in May 2025, approached within 20 kilometers of the asteroid "OCH O3-2016," and will determine its shape and internal structure before sending the samples back to Earth. This mission is part of China's efforts to strengthen its position in deep space exploration, following its success in a lunar sample-return mission in 2024.
