Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova declared victory in the presidential election runoff, becoming the first woman elected to lead the country, alongside her elected vice president, Kiril Valchev. Poll estimates put her share of the vote at 57.4% to 58.2%, compared with 38.6% to 39.6% for her rival, Andrey Gyurov. Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine were central to the electoral divide: Iotova called for dialogue with Moscow and opposed providing military aid to Ukraine.
