Portugal calls on Morocco and Spain for assistance amid ongoing wildfires

The Portuguese government has requested Morocco and Spain, along with the European Civil Protection Mechanism, to provide additional aircraft to combat upcoming wildfires, as temperatures have risen above 40°C. This has led to a state of alert and the deployment of over 2,800 firefighters, 864 vehicles, and 32 aircraft to confront six active fires, the most prominent of which is in the Viseu region. This request is part of European efforts to respond to the heatwave, amid increasing risks of wildfires in the country.
