U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said that MINURSO had failed to achieve its objective after 35 years. He expressed Washington’s opposition to renewing its mandate and noted that the mission spends about 80 percent of its time resupplying itself. He warned of the humanitarian situation in the Tindouf camps, where two-thirds of children under five suffer from anemia, one-third are stunted, and only 10 percent receive the minimum acceptable diet. He called for abandoning limited solutions in favor of a more effective approach, while continuing negotiations and diplomatic efforts.
