Mauritania rescues 193 migrants
193 irregular migrants were rescued off the coast of Nouakchott after sailing from Banjul in The Gambia. One woman died, and the medical condition of one of the migrants required their transfer to the hospital. The migrants originate from The Gambia, Senegal, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Benin, amid an increase in rescue operations and arrests along the Mauritanian coast due to illegal migration towards Europe.
