Human Rights Chief Reports Middle East Impact
The High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, warned of a worsening human rights situation in the Middle East, particularly in Iran and Palestine, amid ongoing conflicts and acts of violence. He emphasized that the conflicts in the region have left devastating effects, including the death of 19 civilians and approximately 850 injuries in the Gulf area, due to Iranian attacks and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He called for de-escalation and the protection of civilians. He also pointed to the rising abuses of human rights in other parts of the world, such as Mali and Haiti, warning of a deteriorating security situation.
