Moroccan Livestock Counts and Eid Results
On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, Agriculture Minister Ahmed Bourei presented the government's measures, explaining that the national herd has reached approximately 30.7 million heads, with 95% of the females protected to ensure sustainability. He noted that the supply of sheep and goats exceeds demand, with numbers ranging between 8 and 9 million heads compared to an estimated demand of between 6 and 7 million, thereby ensuring stable supply. Additionally, 565 markets have been prepared, and the quality of units has been monitored by the National Office for Food Safety. Support has also been provided to importers through a flat-rate grant and exemption from fees. Despite the preparations and measures, the markets experienced a significant increase in sacrificial animal prices, with prices surpassing 3,000 dirhams, which sparked discussions about the need to intensify monitoring to curb speculators and market intermediaries.
