Guest in Rafah Sleeps Outdoors and Moves Unprotected After October 7th

Israel assassinated Mahmoud Al-Dief, commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades, in Khan Yunis in January 2025, after identifying him through image and document analysis that involved artificial intelligence and intelligence infiltration. Al-Dief moved around Gaza throughout the recent war and left Gaza City alone in November 2023 for Rafah, where he operated discreetly without revealing his identity. He had no official security detail, which allowed him to make a discreet move during the critical period. Sources confirmed that his exact photo and health status were only known after his assassination, through the analysis of activities by senior leaders in Al-Qassam Brigades and numerous video clips from various locations within the Gaza Strip.
