The British newspaper "The Guardian" has discussed the UK government's call to impose a comprehensive trade ban on Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem, aiming to reduce support for settlement activity. It emphasized that halting the import of goods produced in the settlements is insufficient, and that the ban should extend to prevent British companies from financing, constructing, or advertising in the occupied territories, with the necessity for the ban to be effective and impactful. This call comes amid escalating tensions and assaults in the region, with the United Nations recording over 1,400 attacks by settlers against Palestinians since the beginning of the year, compared to 1,800 attacks in 2025. It also notes an escalation in settlement expansion despite Britain's support for a two-state solution. Europe is witnessing similar moves, with Spain banning imports from settlements, Norway enacting laws against trade with them, and nine European countries calling for similar initiatives. Any British action faces threats from Israel, which considers sanctions a "moral bankruptcy," while Palestinians continue their escalation, citing settler expansion and heightened tensions as the causes.
