Activists reference Ivanka in hijab after Trump attack
The American political scene witnessed a debate between President Donald Trump and New York Governor Kathy Hochul after she was seen wearing a headscarf (hijab) during a visit to an Islamic center in New York. Trump criticized Hochul, considering her behavior an attempt to garner votes from Arab voters and a political weakness, describing her as "the worst governor in the country." Meanwhile, Hochul explained that her visit was as a guest at a mosque, and that wearing the hijab was out of respect for religious traditions, emphasizing that it was an acceptable humane and political act before Trump's political emergence. The discussion rekindled on social media between supporters who consider respecting religious places as normal, and opponents who see the act as having political connotations of flattery, with differing standards between conservatives and Democrats regarding such conduct.
