US military limits phone features in Middle East
U.S. security forces have developed measures to disable advertising tracking tools on military devices, especially amid growing concerns that location data could be exploited to target troops deployed in war zones. This follows reports indicating that advertising companies are collecting and selling personal data that could be used to track American forces. Two months ago, the Air Force and Special Operations Command, along with other branches such as the Army and Navy, disabled ad identifiers on computers and mobile devices running Windows, Android, and Apple systems. The goal was to reduce data collection that could enable enemies to track military personnel. Lawmakers, such as Senator Ron Wyden, continue to urge the Department of Defense to assess the effectiveness of these measures, warning that the disruption efforts may not be foolproof and that other tracking methods could still pose a threat to the safety of the troops.
