Iran asserts control of Hormuz, rejects US response
An Iranian oil tanker was hit by a sea mine in the Strait of Hormuz, in an incident that comes amid escalating regional tensions. This event prompted the British Trade Authority to classify the attack on another tanker by a drone near Sur as a deliberate assault. Search and rescue operations for the missing crew are ongoing. Amid American accusations of managing oil smuggling, the Iranian security commander threatened to use various capabilities against any potential American attack, reaffirming that control of the Strait of Hormuz remains in Iran's hands. This comes amid deadlock in negotiations to de-escalate tensions between Iran and the United States.
