U.S. officials said the United States carried out a limited strike on Iran’s Qeshm Island, which overlooks the Strait of Hormuz, in response to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps firing on a U.S. aircraft. One official said a missile was launched from the island toward a U.S. fighter jet, and that a surface-to-air missile launcher was destroyed. The strikes were intended to prevent Iran from attacking ships in the strait, the officials said, adding that there were no immediate plans for further military escalation.
