Palestinian Authority security forces arrested leader and former prisoner Abd al-Salam Jamal Abu al-Hija at dawn on Wednesday, after raiding his home in Jenin, and took him to an unknown location. The arrest came less than two months after he was released from Israeli occupation prisons in late August, having spent four consecutive years behind bars as part of a sentence of around 17 years. The incident came amid a rise in political arrests and summonses in the West Bank targeting former prisoners and activists.
