The newspaper *Yedioth Ahronoth* revealed that the Nachala settlement movement secretly bought eight Palestinian homes in Jericho through a third party. The operation took about a year, and only five people knew about it. One participant described it as having been carried out like a military mission, while some settlers were taken by surprise when they moved into the homes at the last minute. The Israeli army was also surprised by their arrival and had to move in a force of three combat platoons to protect them.
