Sony to halt PlayStation disc production in 2028

Sony announced that it will cease production and sale of physical PlayStation discs starting January 2028, aiming to shift towards digital distribution. New games released after this date will only be available through digital downloads via online stores and activation codes, while support for disc versions of games released before this date will continue. Sony also revealed plans to shut down the PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita starting August 2026 in certain markets, with the global shutdown expected to be completed by July 2027. This decision reflects the industry's move towards digital gaming and the decline in sales of traditional physical discs.
