Byzantine-era residential city found in Egypt
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has unveiled an integrated residential city dating back to the Byzantine era, discovered at the Ain Al-Sabeel site in the Dakhla Oasis of New Valley Province. The city includes mudbrick buildings, organized streets intersecting with squares and courtyards, as well as a 4th-century basilica church, along with several fortresses, ovens, houses, and everyday life tools. Approximately 200 ostraca inscribed in Coptic and Greek were also found, along with bronze and gold coins dating to the Byzantine period, offering valuable insights into the economic and social life of that time.
