OpenAI has announced a historic achievement in solving the Navier-Stokes equations, one of the most challenging open mathematical problems for nearly 90 years, which concerns describing the movement of fluids and gases. The company utilized an advanced artificial intelligence model and 10,000 simultaneous AI agents, relying on tools such as Codex, to arrive at a solution. This has sparked debate among researchers about the conditions and timing of the breakthrough. Solving these equations is one of the "Millennium Prize Problems," which offer a million dollars for each scientifically verified solution. The company based its work on previous research by Bakmeister and Albougue, raising questions about how much the model had access to other researchers' data, while emphasizing that no user-specific data was used.
