The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the Strait of Hormuz, which has included attacks on commercial ships and threats of actions against maritime infrastructure and energy facilities. He called on all parties to restore and respect freedom of navigation in the strait in accordance with international law, emphasizing the need for restraint and avoiding escalation that endangers civilians, regional stability, international security, and the global economy. He urged the use of diplomatic channels to resolve disputes, with the United Nations remaining prepared to support any efforts toward lasting de-escalation.
