Oil prices rose during Asian trading, heading to close the week above $100 per barrel for the first time since May, amid escalating attacks on shipping routes in the Middle East that have intensified fears of prolonged supply disruptions. Brent crude gained $1.05 to $108.68 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate increased 95 cents to $103.45. Both benchmarks surged by more than 6% yesterday, marking the largest weekly gain since mid-July, with a 13% increase. Additionally, diesel prices in the United States surpassed $6 per gallon for the first time, driven by tightening supplies. Meanwhile, OPEC revised downward its global oil demand growth forecast for 2026 to 380,000 barrels per day, marking the fifth consecutive reduction in their outlook.
