Qatar and UNESCO back AI in education
UNESCO, in collaboration with the International Forum of Inclusion Practitioners, concluded an international workshop in Paris to discuss the future of education amidst the transformative changes brought about by artificial intelligence and technology. The discussions focused on the responsible use of AI to support inclusive education, developing future skills, and enhancing collaboration between practitioners and policymakers. Additionally, a contract was signed to establish the "Global Education Group," aimed at representing practitioners and teachers in global decision-making and ensuring the sustainability of policy impacts. Emphasis was placed on the importance of actively involving teachers in policy formulation. Dr. Rania Yousry Mohamed affirmed that Qatar sees this initiative as an opportunity to share its expertise and strengthen its participation in shaping the future of global education. She emphasized that AI should be used to support the role of teachers, while also taking into account governance and digital security. The discussions also addressed the importance of skill development and aligning education with future market needs, as well as protecting the right to education during conflicts. The shift from dialogue to implementation was highlighted, through the Paris 2026 framework, to ensure that decisions translate into measurable outcomes.
