Hunters' Chairman Highlights Falconry Heritage
Falconry in Qatar represents a rich heritage that was internationally recognized when it was inscribed on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. Qatar is celebrating a full decade since the organization of the "Souhel 2026" exhibition, which involves more than 150 entities from 15 countries. The exhibition showcases traditional heritage, rare falcons, as well as hunting and camping equipment and techniques. The Qatar Falconers Society aims to protect this heritage by creating an archival documentation system, organizing training competitions for youth, as well as hosting events, workshops, and training courses on falcon care and veterinary practices. The society has also achieved scientific accomplishments, including genome analysis of falcons and developing highly accurate genetic tests. These efforts enhance Qatar’s global standing in the preservation and safeguarding of falconry heritage and ensure the sustainability of the biological diversity of these birds.
