Health Ministry Adds HPV Vaccine to School Immunization
The Ministry of Public Health in Qatar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Primary Health Care Corporation, announced the inclusion of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in the national school immunization campaign. The goal is to provide early prevention against high-risk strains of the virus and to reduce the future burden of diseases and cancers associated with HPV. The campaign targets more than 75,000 students in grades 8, 9, and 10, and will be conducted in two phases: the first from September to November 2026, and the second from April to May 2027. The vaccine is approved by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is administered to children aged 11 to 14 to achieve the best immune response. It remains voluntary, with parental consent required, obtained through an informational consent form. The campaign focuses on raising health awareness and providing a safe environment for vaccination within schools. This step is an important measure to protect student health and strengthen community immunity in the country.
