Saudi player debuts in Champions League
Saudi international Saud Abdulhamid made history in Saudi football by becoming the first Saudi player to participate in the Champions League. He appeared in the starting lineup for his French team, Lens, against Sporting Lisbon of Portugal in the 2026-2027 season. His participation came after recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of the team's first match in the competition, allowing him to return and play in the second match as a right-back. Abdulhamid, 27 years old, began his European journey by transferring from Al Hilal to Roma, then to Lens, contributing to the team's victory in the French Cup and qualification for the Champions League—an historic achievement in his professional career.
