Seventeen Dead in India Festival Stampede
Seventeen people lost their lives and 25 others were injured in a stampede during a festival in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal in eastern India. The incident occurred due to severe overcrowding when participants tried to move into a sheltered area to escape heavy rains, resulting in casualties. Stampede incidents are common in India, especially during large gatherings, and in 2024 alone, the country witnessed the death of 120 people in a stampede accident in Uttar Pradesh.
