Nigeria president reports 13,000 militants killed in a year
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu announced that over 13,000 militants were killed last year, with an 81% decrease in the death toll since May 2023. He confirmed that more than 124,000 fighters and their families surrendered their weapons since the start of the "Safe Passage" operation aimed at rehabilitating them. Northern Nigeria faces security threats that include violence from armed groups and criminal gangs, which carry out attacks and mass kidnappings for ransom.
