WHO: Hotspots hinder Ebola estimate
Global Health Organization experts have pointed to concerning uncertainties regarding the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with estimates suggesting that the spread may be larger than previously thought. Authorities have confirmed 676 cases and 136 deaths so far, with the disease spreading to three new health districts and extending into neighboring Uganda. The healthcare system is facing a shortage of isolation beds for patients, and the virus involves a rare strain for which no approved treatment or vaccine is currently available.
