Disability Convention Shift to Rights
Her Excellency Mrs. Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee, affirmed that the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities marked a global turning point from a care-based approach to a rights-based approach, with a focus on ensuring full equality for persons with disabilities. She pointed out that the committee contributed to the issuance of the law concerning their rights in Qatar in 2025, and emphasized that the current challenge is to ensure the effective and balanced implementation of these rights, especially in areas affected by crises and conflicts. She called for a comprehensive evaluation of achievements and for encouraging political will to address existing gaps.
