Today, the great Iraqi artist Farouk Hilal passed away at the age of 89 after a career spanning seven decades, during which he significantly contributed to the creation of Iraqi musical memory. He was not given an official farewell or a proper funeral; only six people participated in his funeral procession. This sparked feelings of sadness and bewilderment across the country, especially since he was one of the most prominent symbols of Iraqi art who refused to leave without a farewell befitting his stature. Farouk Hilal was known for his high values and morals, and he was opposed to the political debates stirred around him. The discussions focused on his political relations and national history, but he emphasized that his artistic and patriotic contributions surpass any political disagreements or controversies, and that his death deserves respect and appreciation.
