Delivery Apps: Profit Battle Behind the Tap
The article discusses the economic challenges faced by food delivery app companies in Saudi Arabia, with a focus on rising costs and commissions that negatively impact restaurant profits. Despite a 49% increase in demand in the first quarter of 2026 and a doubling of delivery transactions, experts point out that the officially stated commissions, which reach 18%, could exceed 40% after including advertising expenses and efforts to improve visibility. This puts restaurants in a difficult position when it comes to maintaining profit margins. Some restaurants resort to raising prices or reducing portion sizes, but this may harm their brand image. Others advise reevaluating product pricing and managing costs more effectively, while relying on direct sales channels to achieve financial sustainability.
