The English Football Association has approved the implementation of a new system starting from the 2026-2027 season to reduce goalkeepers feigning injury to disrupt matches or to give coaches an opportunity to influence players. This decision was made following approval from the International Football Association Board (IFAB). Coaches will be required to select a player to leave the field immediately when the game is stopped due to a goalkeeper’s injury, and that player must stay off for one minute. If no choice is made within 10 seconds, the captain will automatically exit. The system includes exceptions for injuries caused by errors or injuries requiring immediate treatment. The new system will be implemented starting from the upcoming Carabao Cup match.
