Saudi Water Authority launches new energy device factory
The Saudi Water Authority has announced the establishment of the first global factory outside the United States dedicated to producing certified energy recovery devices for water desalination. The project is expected to cost significantly, with production slated to begin in the first quarter of 2027. The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of desalination plants and reduce reliance on imports, with an anticipated contribution of around 137 million SAR to the GDP by 2033 and the creation of over 50 jobs. The factory will have an annual production capacity of 2,000 devices, covering local demand and exporting some to markets in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. This supports the development of national capabilities and the reliability of water supply chains.
