A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck Kyushu Island in southwestern Japan, resulting in many casualties and dozens trapped under the rubble, particularly inside the "Ion Mall" shopping center in Kumamoto, which partially collapsed. The earthquake caused power outages for thousands of homes, disruption of railway services, damage to industrial facilities, and the outbreak of fires. Over 50 people have been injured, and 12 houses have collapsed. So far, rescue teams continue their search for survivors and are assessing the extent of the human and material damages.
