Saudi Arabia announces the launch of 2027 as the "Year of Water" to enhance water resource management and achieve water security, coinciding with its hosting of the 2027 World Water Conference. The aim of this year is to raise awareness about the importance of water, improve its efficient use, and unify national initiatives, with a focus on developing policies, investments, and international partnerships to support water sustainability. The kingdom has made significant strides in reducing the consumption of non-renewable water and increasing seawater desalination production, as groundwater use decreased from 21 billion cubic meters in 2016 to 11 billion cubic meters in 2025. Additionally, desalination capacity has increased to 16 million cubic meters per day, and safe water services now reach 100% of the population. Saudi Arabia emphasizes its leadership role globally in water management, reflecting its position in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthening water security regionally and internationally.
